People Management Magazine

The editorial staff at People Management Magazine are required to produce guides to a number of exhibitions and events held every year, such as:

The information about exhibitors arrives in a stream of emails generated by a third party system. This required a huge manual effort to copy and paste the information as well as sorting, categorising and avoiding duplication. Once assembled the information then needed to be styled ready to print the show guide.

DGT Technology has written a bespoke software application called Listings Manager to automate much of the manual effort. The system connects to a mail box and reads all the incoming emails, seperating out the data elements. This data is then written into a database.

The editorial staff prepare templates to tell Listings Manager how to style the information using font styles, colours and other markup information.

The information from the database is then merged with the template to produce an Adobe tagged text formatted file ready to be imported into Adobe Indesign. Minor adjustments are made before the document is ready for printing.

Since starting to use Listings Manager, errors have been virtually eliminated and the time and cost to produce the guides has reduced.

FM World Magazine

FM World, another magazine within the Redactive Media Group is using an enhanced version of Listings Manager that allows sales staff to add and edit information in the database through a web browser.
